This is likely to be the fault of the Google Talk client.
According to this mailinglist message post by Lars T. Mikkelsen, the problem ocurrs because the Google Talk client does not comply properly with the JEP-0153 standard (vCard-Based Avatars).
This kind developer at the message post above has provided the code necessary to modify PyMSNt in order for it to work with Google Talk clients as desired.
Unfortunately, this solution means modifying the PyMSNt source. For those users out there who aren't using their own Jabber server/MSN transport, you'll have to just wait, or contact the administrator of your Jabber server to get them to apply the patch.
Cheers,
Daniel Simmons.

No worries. I just applied the necessary patch to PyMSNt and it works.
Also to be clear, Lars T. Mikkelsen's patch also fixes sending of your avatar to MSN clients (the problem witnessed here: http://www.customizetalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=432).
Either Google will fix this up soon (as they should), or a similar patch may be incorporated into PyMSN-t and then administrators subsequently update (less likely).
Cheers,
Dan.

That is because I have manually renamed those contacts.
The Google Talk client simply does not retrieve Jabber nicknames at this point.

Yahoo is going with Live very soon in one of the beta live messanger versions apparently.
Google Talk needs to go with AIM like the plan was....
MAybe one day we will have a supper client and not need transports.
