Good news everybody! The Google Talk online status bot, created by Jon Burrows is back online, but still in testing. Currently, the bot does not respond to the original commands, but hopefully in the near future, we'll have our online status images back again and when this does happen, you will know _________________ My First Homemade Sig

Yeah, hopefully the new system will be a lot better (not that the old one wasn't ) and that it won't have a problem with a lot of users, like the old _________________ My First Homemade Sig

Hi to all of you,
Just to keep you all up todate regarding the status bot.
As you all probably know the status bot has been a bit up and down lately, I have been trying to work out why this has been and I now believe that I have found the problem.
The reason the bot keeps going down is not because google are blockig it, although they were in the beginning due to the shear number of stanzas being sent, but because certain individuals are trying to hack the bot by crafting code to hack into the system.
This causes the bot to stop talking and immediately go off-line as it is receiving commands via the encstrings that the bot does not recognise as legitimate and thus as a safety feature goes offline.
I know this is a problem for everyone when it does so, but I hope you understand why the bot does go off-line.
I am slowly tracking down the users that are causing this problem and as well as stopping their access to the bot I am also modifying the codebase to ignore their attacks, and only go off-line in cases of emergency.
I wont tell you how as they might be reading this, but lets just say I am learning their secrets.
With every attack the bot is being recoded to understand how to deal with it, but obviously with a new attack I have no choice but to let the bot go off-line. I don't want to possibly compromise my computer systems or also give out the masses of gmail email accounts addresses the bot has.
I assure you all that no data has been retreived from the bot regarding email addresses etc, as the bot immediately goes offline before responding to any of their requests.
Regards

Sounds wierd. Do you have an administrator (your hustband or kid or someone else)? I think it might be posible. You can try to find help in the gmail support page - http://mail.google.com/support/?ctx=%67mail&hl=en _________________ Lucky |

Hi, I'm only one administrator on this computer,
thing is it does say also that I should check my Internet Connection. Which I found weird as I could be typing an email and my Internet is still connected. I have a symbol in taskbar on my desktop, [dial-up] and usually it's flashing away. But will check out with link you gave me. But first will take snapshot of message when it appears, not always there, but bit inconvient if want to use it.
Cathy
Edit: where are my manners Thank you for your advice. _________________ Cathy M |

Hi!
I'm a new boy on the forum from Northern part of Serbia. I want to add a gtalk status indicator to my site.
I have invited the gtalkstatusindicator monkey gmail dot com, and it's status on my friend's list is still invited. And it's not workig. Is the system still working? What could be my problem?
Thanks for help and excluse me for my mistakes in English ,

Hi,
I'm not sure why it didn't autosubscribe you. You should now be subscribed though as I have manually authorised you.
I will look into the automatic authorisation when I get onto the system later today.
Regards
